He fed the one for his table and kept the other for the sake of its song. When the time came for killing the Goose, the cook went to get him at night, when it was dark, and he was not able to distinguish one bird from the other. By mistake he caught the Swan instead of the Goose. The Swan, threatened with death, burst forth into song and thus made himself known by his voice, and preserved his life by his melody.

Fast forward to Pennsylvania 2006, where ex-Steeler (has he done anything else?) Lynn Swann is challenging the extremely capable Ed Rendell for the governor’s seat. And while it’s very encouraging to see a black candidate running for such a prestigious office- Where does he stand on anything. John Baer did an excellent job in displaying Swann’s lack of matter this week in the DN, and I second his opinion. In my attempt to avoid the cattle call, and to be generally elusive, I escaped “primoris solum” through the servant’s entrance. Unfortunately, no sooner see the button, than I was apprehended by HJ and an overzealous Sal who spotted my generic proletarian fatigues from 33rd Street.

This time they brought reinforcements in the form of Lizzy the Lumberjack who had deviated from her usual occupation of sniffing drainpipes.
“Can you…” she began to ask. But I was already unconsciously nodding yes; eerily reminiscent of the war veterans who still salute every citizen on the sidewalk.

Lizzy then departed and Sal began quoting Fredrick Olmstead Taylor aloud. HJ scrambled to find a pen and notepad- but came up empty, save a deck of playing cards. Amid the confusion I pulled my famous move- reviving Columbo until I could catch up with an equally elusive friend. It was at that time- with all the mirages springing about campus I thought “You gotta stand for something.”

As far as I Recollect

So early, early this morning- not THIS morning, but this morning- didn’t differ much from the custom. A few bottomfeeding quarterbacks were buzzing about my limestone n’ ivory tower carrying briefcases filled with shit, trying to pawn one off on me in exchange for a handshake. I declined.

H.J. is my contact. He swung by the Big House with a lifesize mirror a and a tall mustachioed man they called Sal, who was bouncing a tennis ball while he policed the slop sink.

“Hey Handsome, keep up the good work” he said as the ball bounced off his foot and rolled the door.

In my envious state, I tiptoed out the door and up to the “primoris solum” and decided that 4 hours of shadowboxing an irrepressible opponent was all I could take. So I skipped out on HJ and Sal, and opted for a delicious 10AM crepe. Next, I dug into my bag of trickery and deceit and came out with a bad case of the Espanol bulimia.

It wasn’t until I got on my scooter at 3pm, that I beat the bug, and then bugged the beat. I arrived at Knox for Philly somewhere around daytime. It started out muy mal because my oxygen mask had some complex malfunction. I asked Jen for help- but she just kept responding with “Oh, Snap!” So I borrowed someone else’s- on loan from the Galapagos Islands.

I had to leave at 5 so I could try to cartwheel back to November for University Council. I was unsuccessful. So I drank a Hopdevil, took a nap, and so it began- so here we are. I can’t offer you a snack and/or juice. I could offer you something of the grill, but if you brought your own, I’d rather you kept it to yourself. Thanks for your cooperation and thanks for…

Welcome to the Life of George

Please feel free to browse around.
